This couple are making love against a smooth rock at the sea shore at low tide on a warm evening in late autumn, after everyone else has left the beach.
The stone is a sandstone with disconcertingly large lumps of glassy flint which turn up in all the worst places. The concept was to have the people as 'rough' and the rock as 'smooth' as possible, but it would have worked better on a much larger piece of stone.
